Imphal, November 01 2009: The International Drug Users' Day was observed in Imphal today under the themes "Access to Treatment and Essential medication of affordable price" and Rights to live with dignity". The God's Anointed New Generation (GANG), Manipur Network of Drug Users' (MANDU), Manipur Intravenous Drug Users' League (MIVL) and Born Again Rehabilitation Centre (BARN), Ukhrul in alliance with People of Positive (PoP+) jointly observed the day. As a mark of remembrance to the departed souls of the drug victims, the organising committee lit up candles at the doorstep of household affected by overdose around the vicinity of Thangmeiband, Uripok, Sagolband and Keishamthong. Action and Implementation for Development (AID), Chingamakha also organised International Drug Users' Day was today in collaboration with Empowerment of Community for Human Education and Multitude Advancement (ECHEMA) at Langthabal Lep Mayai Leikai Community Hall, a statement informed. The occasion was graced by Nongmeikappam Ganga, pradhan of Ningombam GP and social worker W Gambhine as the chief guest and president respectively. Around 120 people have attended the function, it added.
Education has always been the mainstay of my family and yet it failed when needed the most. Using drugs has impact my education, in such a way, that I was not able to complete my master degree, seeking out for the next dose when my colleagues were carving a niche, browsing through the library. Initially, I happened to be just one of those consumers of recreational drugs, eventually, it became the other way around.
The consumer was sold to the product.
